A Tendency Toward Life

Words and music by Lisa Jones Bromfield
Performed by Lisa Jones Bromfield and Bill Bromfield

Small spheres of phospholipids
Keeping RNA in, other stuff out
Evolving chemical perpetual motion
Eventually able to shout

Who am I, How did I get here?
We seem to think we are the first
Is it not still glorious
With or without a seven day birth

A tendency toward life

Life breaking expectations
To the extreme many survive.
High salt, high heat, no oxygen
And yet organisms thrive

Who am I, How did I get here?
We seem to think we are the first to ask
But is it not still glorious
Without another performing the task

A tendency toward life

Life is the usual, it’s commonplace
Where does that leave very special me?
Here synaptically asking questions
So glad to be alive and free

Who am I, How did I get here?
I won’t be the first to know
It’s glorious unveiling life’s power
It’s a grand biological show.

A tendency toward life
